Mental Fitness

Supporting the emotional well-being of our members and the local community is a priority of our Healthy Club programme.  Members are encouraged to keep on top of their mental fitness.  Here are some ideas as to how you can do that.

A)      Take time each day to incorporate one or more of the Five Ways To Wellbeing will boost your wellbeing

CONNECT

Connect with the people around you, at home, work, school or in your local community.

BE ACTIVE

Go for a walk or a run. Step outside. Cycle, play a game, garden or dance. Discover a physical activity you enjoy which suits your lifestyle and level of mobility and fitness.

TAKE NOTICE

Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Be Curious. Catch sight of the beautiful. Notice the changing seasons. Savour the moment.

KEEP LEARNING

Try something new. Rediscover an old interest.  Take on a new responsibility or a new challenge.  It will increase your confidence.

GIVE

Giving to others is good for you. Do something nice for someone else. Thank someone. Volunteer your time or join a community group.

B)      Learn about Mental Fitness by reading or doing a course

The GAA, in partnership with St. Patrick’s Mental Health Foundation, designed a mental fitness resource to support the emotional well-being of club players and members. The ‘Play in my Boots’ pack (an extension of St. Patrick’s successful ‘Walk in my Shoes’ campaign) aims to de-stigmatise mental health by speaking to players in a sporting language familiar to them.
