Safeguarding Courses
Child Protection Course
It is a mandatory requirement for all Mentors to complete a Child Protection Course known as Safeguarding 1. If your Safeguarding 1 course was completed more than 3 years ago you MUST complete a refresher course online. A person can complete the safeguarding refresher in their own time once they have attended a safeguarding face-to-face workshop from 2016 onwards. The Safeguarding 1 refresher may be accessed at https://learning.gaa.ie/node/283509. The refresher is also available for those mentors who attended a Local Sports Partnership (LSP) or other Sports NGB’s Safeguarding 1 training. They can ‘top up’ their training requirements through the GAA’s Safeguarding refresher course. This fulfils their child safeguarding training needs enabling them work with children in the Gaelic Games Associations.
It is very important that once you complete any Safeguarding course you let your club Children’s Officer know the certificate of completion reference and date of the course so the club can update its records. The club are not automatically informed when a mentor completes a safeguarding course. This information can be emailed to vetting@clontarfgaa.com
All adult mentors must complete a safeguarding course as we often have juvenile players playing up at adult level.
Child Safeguarding at GAA Camps
Camp Assistants have a key role to play in the running of Cúl Camps and Clubs Camps in the GAA. Like all others who work with children, Camp Assistants and Camp Supervisors must either attend their allocated Child Safeguarding Awareness Workshop or download a video of the workshop prior to commencing their role at the camp.
The Camp Assistant video can be accessed at https://learning.gaa.ie/CampSafeguarding
