Match Report July 25th 2007

Senior League (AFL 2) – Wed. 25th July 2007

Clontarf 1-10  V O’Tooles 0-12

“Clontarf win in close encounter”

This was a very tight affair with Clontarf leading for most of the time and eventually holding on for the narrowest of victories. There was a goal in it at half time for the away team and despite Clontarf facing a stiff wind in the second half they held on for a narrow escape.

It was a game that could so easily have been lost through poor concentration. Having established their dominance, Clontarf decided that the best defence of their lead was to "not mark their men" and defend "ad lib". OTooles threatened with strong attacks especially in the second half but thankfully were unable to finish on a number of occasions, preferring to pass the shooting option to colleagues that were less well positioned than themselves.

This was a poor decision as O Tooles were capable of much better. Clontarf mounted a huge team effort and all players answered the call especially those playing out of position. Ger Devine had a magnificent game contributing 3 points (one disallowed ) floating between midfield and full forward, Robert Stokes came on as a second half sub and dominated his man from in front. Every player his part in grinding out this victory and overall it was a well deserved win
