Clontarf GAA Club Notes 8th January 2008

A very happy New Year to all club members.Many thanks to all those who participated in and helped organise the Adult 7 a side blitz for charity on Dec 28th. All proceeds will assist 5 of our Minor team  who will be travelling to Zambia on charity work with their school (St. Fintans Sutton). Deepest Condolences to the family and friends of Ronan O'Donovan who passed away last week. Adult Hurling training starts back on Mon 11th at Total Fitness (7:45pm). Under 16 Footballers lost to St. Pats(P) (1-7,5-2). U15 matches fell victim to the weather. Ladies training continues Mon and Fri. U16's lost to St. Marks (3-8,7-9). U15's lost to St. Brigids in a very entertaining and hard fought game. Ladies training continues on Mon and Wed and spinning on Fri. Clontarf GAA Club Notes 19th February 2008

Team of the Week are the U13 A Footballers who had a thrilling 1 pt win over Na Fianna in Div 1 (4-6,4-5). A disappointing start to the Adult season with all 3 football teams losing their cup games away from home. Seniors lost to Whitehall (1-10,0-10). Scorers were: Shane McIntyre (0-5), Aidan Morrissey, Shane Barrett (0-2), Karl Spellman (0-1). Half time score was (0-6,0-6). Clontarf started stong but were hesitant and wasteful in front of goal. A fortunate Whitehall goal in the final 5 mins sealed the victory for the home side. Junior A's lost to Skerries (0-10,0-4) and B's lost to Erins Isle (2-12,1-8). Minors were narrowly defeated by Raheny in an exciting contest (2-9,3-3). Despite being reduced to 14 men, Clontarf fought back from a 9pt defecit to draw level but then conceded a last min goal. Adult hurlers continue to train Mon and Wed. U11's notched their 5th consecutive win defeating Plunketts in the cup. U16's lost to whitehall (0-8,1-9). Great wins for the U12's A (over donamore) and B (over Na Fianna) teams in the cup. Congrats to Denis McIntyre and Claire Curtin who were married last Thur and belated wedding congrats to Johnny Murphy. Congrats also to Redmond & Mairead O'Leary on the birth of their baby girl. Well done to St. Vincents on reaching the All-Ireland Club Final, best of luck on St. Patricks Day. Annual Dinner Dance at Clontarf Castle had a record attendance, many thanks to Patricia Reynolds and Sue Lillis for the organization , (pictures on website). A very deserving Ollie Managan was awarded Clubman of the Year. Thanks also to Danny O'Connor, Gerldine Doyle and Frank Glesson for attending the dinner dance. Seniors lost in the cup to O'Tooles (1-4,0-13), best were John O'Halloran, Aidan Morrissey, Darren Lambart and Ger Ryan. Minor Hurlers drew with Na Fianna in the season opener.U16's lost to St. Maurs (2-7,0-6). U14 A's lost to a strong Castleknock in the Feile, best were Maitias McDonagh, Robert Reynolds and Niall Terry. Adult Football leagues started with wins for the Junior A's and B's, while Seniors earned a draw V St. Brigids (2-8,2-8). New Junior C team lost narrowly to Starlights (2-7,2-8).U15A's had a great win V Naomh Barrog, best were Mark Plunkett, Brian Forde, Eoin Hickey and Jack McCaffrey. U13A's won their final grading match V St. Brigids and will now compete in Div 1 of the all-county league. 2 goals by Mark Glennon in the 2nd half swung the game for Clontarf. U11 hurlers had a comfortable victory over Whitehall., while U10's lost to Na Fianna despite great contributions from Sean O'Shea, Donal O'Dwyer and Liam Howley.Easter Camp details and application form available on website.Ladies presentaion night was a big success, thanks to Dara Terry and Dublin's Cliondha O Connor. Team of the week are the U14 Hurlers who recorded a fine win over St. Marks (1-10,0-3) in the 1st round of the Feile. Seniors lost in the cup to Parnells (1-9,0-9), but this was a positive committed performance. Junior A's lost in the cup to Fingal Ravens (0-5,1-5), Junior B game was off. Both Minor matches were off, training continues every Wed, 7:30 on Astro. U16 hurling V Olafs called off. U13 hurling V Setanta called off. U11's lost in a thrilling friendly game V St. Vincents. Well done to our 3 representatives at the Dublin U12 Easter Tournament, Conor McGinn, Daniel Scully and Diarmuid O'hUallacain. Full round of Adult Cup Football next weekend, while Junior hurlers play Cuala in the league.U16's drew with Castleknock in the 1st round of the Feile. A depleted Senior Team lost in the cup to Fingal Ravens (1-9,0-16). Best for Clontarf were A.Morrissey, K.Spelman, R.O’Brien, S.Barret,C.Glavey and Ger Carey for  a fine Senior debut at full back. Junior B’s produced a sparking performance to defeat St. Oliver Plunketts (2-11,2-3) in the Cup. Graham Johnson was in superb form again, as were Morgan O’Halloran and Mickey McGlinchey. Adult Hurlers lost in the league to Cuala (0-7,1-8). Under 15 – U15A team had a fantastic win away to Round Towers. Best were Niall Dunleavy, Ryan Lattin, Ross O’Hanlon and Joe O’Grady. U15B’s lost narrowly to Plunketts, best were David Kilbridge, Darragh Frewen, Garbhan Doyle and Kevin McLean. Seniors drew with Fingal Ravens in the league (1-7,1-7). Junior A and B teams remain unbeaten in the league with impressive wins over St. Finnians and Raheny. Junior C's lost to O'Dwyers. Team of the week are the Under 11 Footballers who defeated St. Vincents midweek and then had a hard fought win over Raheny in the Cup quarter final - thanks to 2 goals from Barry Davis and great performances from Kevin Mangan and Fiach Beechinor. U12 A's qualified for Cup semi-final with an impressive win over Castleknock (4-7,0-7) and great displays from Gavin Daly, Jordan Mulvany and Cian O'Flaherty. Ladies season kicked off with a loss for the Inters and a win for the Juniors over Craobh Ciaran (1-0,2-9). Under 11 and 13 girls had winning starts to the season, while U10 and U12 girls performed well. Condolences to Anne Reid on the passing of her Mother. Team of the week are the U16 Footballers who produced a magnificant Championship performance to defeat Castleknock (2-15,3-3) in Round 1. This was a fantastic never say die team performance led by inspirational captain Daragh Golden with Stephen Reynolds, Conor Cronin, Keith Talbot, Jack McCaffrey and Aidan O'Donohoe also excelling. Adult Hurlers defeat St. Kevins (1-14,1-6), best were John Devine and Eoin O’Grady. Full round of midweek Adult football league games this week. U15A Footballers had a fine win over Cuala. U12 Hurlers had an excellent away win over St. Brigids (3-4,1-2), with great performances from Jack Clarke and Sean Giles. U10 Hurlers had a narrow win over Cuala. Team of the week are the Girls U13 Footballers who produced a great team display to defeat Scoil Ui Chonaill (3-12,2-10), in a thrilling derby encounter. In Adult league action, Seniors drew with O’Tooles and lost narrowly to Kilmacud (2-10,2-9). Junior A and B teams remain unbeaten with league wins over Naomh Barrog and O’Dwyers. Junior C’s lost to Fingal Ravens, with Ian Sunderland excellent. Minor hurlers lost an exciting game to Erins Isle. U16 hurlers had a great 3-7 to 3-6 win against Skerries. U15 hurlers were narrowly defeated by Clan na Gael in a good game in poor conditions. The scoreline was 5-01 to 2-07. best for Clontarf were Joey O Grady and Leo Farrelley. U13 hurlers had a fine away win over Commercials, thanks to 2 great goals from Sean Mc Cullagh. Adult hurlers defeated St. Maurs (1-4,2-8) in the Doyle Cup, best were Jer Shine and Eoin O'Grady. U16 footballers beaten by Crumlin in Championship quarter final (5-6,2-12). Team of the week are the U15A's
who had a good win away to Ballyboden, with a battling team performance. Best were Ross O'Hanlon in goals who kept a clean sheet. Also Niall Dunleavy, Jack McCaffrey, Robert Reynolds, Robert Forrest and Mark Plunkett. Ladies Inter lost narrowly to Lucan in the league, despite a good performance.Ladies Juniors had a big win over
Ballyboughal, with top scorer full forward Amy Farrell (3-2), while others to perform well were Miriam Foley, Grainne Free, Ciara Carville and Fiona McGinn. Minor Footballers lost to Ballymun, but put up a good performance, with Shane Doyle outstanding at midfield. Senior Footballers play St. Brigids in the 1st round of the Championship on Tue 5th at 8:15pm in Parnell Pk, all support welcome.All 3 Junior teams travel away for Championship action on Sunday. A’s play Garda at 11am, B’s travel to Peregines for 3pm and C’s travel to Man O’War or Parnells. Adult Hurlers lost a close encounter in the league to Crumlin (1-10,3-09), not helped by the loss of the Devine brothers and the injured Peadar Hickey, best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ger Devine. Minor Hurlers beat Scoil Ui Chonaill in the league (0-15, 1-5). John Maguire and Cormac Golden were excellent in defence, while Eoin Cronin led the way in scoring with a superb 10pts. U15A team had a very good win away V St. Brigids, with a strong collective team performance and great work rate. Best for Clontarf were Mark Hughes, Ryan Lattin and Mark Plunkett. Congrats to Niall Terry, Ronan McDyer, Maitias, McDonagh and Robert Diffley for making the Dublin North U14 hurling panel. Intermediates had a good win away to Thomas Davis (2-1,3-4) in the league. Seniors drew with Templeogue SS (2-5,1-8) in the first game on our new pitches, thanks to all who came out to inspect and support. Seniors lost in Championship to St. Brigids in midweek. A great weekend for Junior Football with all 3 teams playing Championship. A’s defeated Garda, B’s defeated Peregrines (2-9,0-9), thanks to goals from Graham Johnson and Johnny O’Connell. C’s drew with Parnells (0-10,0-10) thanks to a last min converted 45 by Ian Sunderland. Also great displays from Shane Doyle and Kevin McGrath. Ladies commence Championship this week.U13 Hurlers had a big win over Lucan.U12B’s lost to Naomh Mearnog (4-0,3-11), best for Clontarf were Mathew Kennedy in goals and Tieghernan O’Connor. Adult Hurlers had a great Championship win over Crumlin (3-14,0-11), best for Clontarf were Ger Devine, Roe Kenny, John Cantwell, Damien Carew, Dan Fanning and a super goal from Eoin O'Connor just back from injury. Important week for Adult football as league action resumes. Seniors play Ballinteer on Wed, pitch 35, A's are away to Ballyfermot on Tue. B's at home to Erins Isle on Thur and C's have Championship replay V Parnells on Thur at 8pm, pitch 34.Minors completed league with a fine win over Nh Fionnbarra. U15 Footballers had a great league win over St. Vincents (3-8,1-7). Scorers: Jack McCaffrey 1-3, Andrew Cooke 1-3, Brian Forde 1-0, Fergal Lawless 0-1, Robert Forrest 0-1. U13 hurlers lost to Plunketts, but with great displays from James Doyle, Paddy Foley and Sean Brodie and very especially Daniel Patton in goals who had another excellent game. U10 hurlers won, lost and drew 3 games away to St. Vincents. Good performances from Paddy Smith, Declan Adamson, Diarmuid Brodie and Nathan Doran. Ladies Championship kicked off with a good display but defeat for Inters by a strong Foxrock/Cabinteely team and a big win for Juniors over Erin Go Breagh. U16 Girls had a great win over St. Maurs (5-9,4-5), best were Aoife Lawlor, Louise Doyle and Shauna Casey. U13 Girls had another fine win, this time over Clanna Gael Fontenoy, thanks to Grace Carroll from Under 12's. Seniors lost league games to Ballinteer and St. Marys, despite continuing to play well. Junior A's had 2 more league wins to leave them on top of Div 6. Junior B's remain on top of Div 9 after a fine win over Erins Isle(2-5,1-7) with Conor Kelly and Graham Johnson magnificent. Junior C's narrowly lost Championship replay to Parnells (1-6,1-8), with Donal Nolan superb. On Sun C's notched 1st league win with Ray Hanley in great form and a class contribution from Willie O'Connor (2-7). U15 A's continued on winning ways, with a great 1 pt victory away to Erins Isle in the league.U13A footballers were back to winning ways with a win over Fingallians, thanks to several of the B squad who stepped up to the plate - S.Weldon, B.Sweeney, A.Connolly and Sean McCullagh. U11's had a 3rd win in a row in Div 1, with a fine team performance against Castleknock and a hat trick of goals from James Foxe. Team of the week are our U12 Hurlers who won their Leinster Tournament with great wins over teams from Carlow, Wicklow and Dublin. They defeated St. Sylvesters in a tense final by 5pts, well done to all involved. Important week for Adult Hurlers as they play Championship away to O'Dwyers on Thur and Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday. Ladies Inters lost to Parnells in the Championship, while Juniors lost narrlowly to St. James Gael. Best of luck to our three U12 Girls reps, playing for Dublin in the Leinster Blitz. Well done to U10 Hurlers who beat Shelmaliers of Wexford, the eventual winners of the Ballyboden Feile. Paddy Smith, Kevin Lillis, Tom O'Flaherty and Jack Higgins were superb throughout. Congratulations to Willie and Karem O'Connor on the arrival of baby Cian. Thanks to all who supported a very successful Corporate lunch last Fri in Croke Pk. Well done to the Finance Committee and also to Breeda Mangan, Claire Davies, Mary O'Mahoney, Patricia Reynolds and Deirdre Prendergast for their great help. Thanks also to everyone who attended our Fundraiser BBQ after the Dubs match and to the crew who ran the show, especially Margaret Traynor. Tickets for the next Dubs match must be ordered before Tue 17th from Kieran McMahon (086-1791120). Adult Hurlers lost to O'Dwyers in the Championship, but followed up with a fine 7pt win over Kilmacud (in the league. A big championship week ahead for Junior Football. Junior A's play Round towers away on Sun, while the B's play Colmcilles at home, best of luck to both and please support the lads. Ladies Juniors defeated Clan Na Gael Dundalk in a challenge. U13B Footballers beat Whitehall (2-3,1-10) in a very competitive match. U14B Footballers lost to Geraldine Morans despite a fine 2nd half performance in scoring 5-6, best for Cluain Tarbh were Jack Clayton and Gavin Fitzpatrick. U12 Girls were beaten by a strong Fingallians side, despite a fine defensive performance, especially from Cara Donnelly. U11A Footballers lost despite a great game from Stephen O'Quigley, while B's won against Na Fianna, with other B team losing by 1 pt to O'Dwyers.

Senior Footballers lost to Erin’s Isle by two points.  Junior As lost in the Championship yesterday to a strong Round Towers side but put up a very good display.  Junior Hurlers have a Championship game at home on Thursday and Junior B Footballers play Championship at home on Friday night all support welcome.The U10 footballers won both the A and B competitions in a blitz hosted by Naas. A great achievement, well done to all. We wish John Hynes, Under 10 Mentor, who had an accident on route to Saturday’s game a speedy recovery.  Under 11 Hurlers while depleted in numbers  played well losing narrowly to Raheny 1-5 to 3-0 and 2-2 to 2-4.  Under 12 A Hurlers had a great win in their Cup Semi Final against St. Sylvester’s. It was a great team effort with all players contributing to a fine performance.  U16 footballers were beaten by St. Pat’s, Palmerstown. Under 10 Div 1 girls finished their league with a win over Na Fianna.  A great display from all the girls on the panel.   Girls Under 10 Div 3 beat Na Fianna in a friendly game.  The usual positive effort was made by all the players.  Great team performance from the Under 12 Girls with a great win over Sylversters. Una Raymond-Hoey was superb throughout with the scores coming from 7 players.    Each and every player contributed to the overall success. Junior footballer, Fergal Lynch, heads the field in our G.A.A. Nursery Mini League Finals were a huge success, well done to all the boys and girls, pictures on our website. Thanks to PJ and his crew for supplying all the food and to all the parents for their support, despite the bad weather.Team of the week are our Junior B footballers who made it 13 wins in a row, as they clinched a quarter final Championship slot. U12 Girls had great league win, with Roisin Weldon excellent. Ladies Inters lost by 1 pt to Clanna Gael in the cup and play Skerries in the championship at home on Wed, all support welcome. Ladies Juniors had a heavy defeat against Wanderers, despite fine displays from Caroline Kenny, Maeve O'Malley, Miriam Foley and Trish Reynolds. Junior B and C footballers have home league games tonight at 7:45. Well done to all who competed in the Lucozade 'head to head' challenge on Fri and to Mick Cronin for organising. U11 Footballers finished 1st half of the season with another fine win over Ballyboughal, helped by
a hatful of goals from man of the match Conor Muldoon Finnerty.U13's competed in the PJ Troy tournament and put up a great show, losing to Faughs in the semi final. Seniors lost away in the league to St. Maurs, despite a good performance that just lacked the cutting edge up front, best wishes to Shane Barrett for a speedy recovery. Junior A's remain top of Div 6 after the Garda failed to stop them. Junior B's 13 game unbeaten streak was halted by St. Brigids (2-10,0-11), despite fine performances from Conor Kelly and Colm Kilfeather. Next up is the Championship quarter-final V AIB on July 17th. Junior C's failed to field, with several of the team scattered across Europe. Adult Hurlers defeated Raheny in a friendly. U16 Hurlers acquitted themselves well at the Carlow Hurling club blitz. All U13 Camogie players and anyone interested in playing should contact PJ Ryan (086-8237949) before July10th. Well done to Kilmacud Crokes on a great Feile victory. A fantastic week for Adult football with 4 home wins. Seniors defeated Parnells by 2pts the league. Junior A's had a big win over Templeogue, with Mark Murphy excelling in the middle. Junior B's also defeated Templeogue in the league. Highlight of the week was the Junior B's Championship victory as they came from 6pts down to beat AIB to reach the Championship semi final (Aug 21st). Tommy O'Connor got the all important goal, while Hempo starred throughout in what was a very spirited team performance. Adult Hurlers are in championship action tonight away to St. Kevins. Well done to our ladies on an excellent win in the Junior Cup over Erin go Breagh. Despite being weakened by players on holiday, Clontarf were too strong for a lively Eirn go Breagh team. Congratulations to the 6 girls from Clontarf who represented Dublin in the U12 Leinster Blitz.  Well done to all of them.  The U10's had a great weekend with our 3 teams winning all their games in the  blitz vs Na Fianna & Erin Isle.   Best were Kevin Lillis,  Patrick Smyth, Harry Oppermann,  Cian Walsh,  Robbie Murphy,  Conor Clinton,  Jack Pilon.  Good week also for our Under 11's who had a big win in hurling v Naomh Mearnog and came back from the dead with late goals to beat a strong Raheny team in football.  Barry Davis, John Mullins, Jack O'Connor all outstanding.  Our under 13 A's had a very narrow win over Cuala.  Great defensive work with penalty save by Gary Power in the closing stages made for a nail biting finish with Ross McCullagh stepping up to hit the pressure point free for a Cluain Tarbh victory. Our Under 13 B's lost to Kilmacud Crokes in a very high scoring game. Special thanks to the Under 12's who helped out.  Under 13 Hurlers fought tooth & nail to come from behind and earn a draw with St. Sylvesters  Under 14 Footballers lost to St. Vincents in a challenge game. Team of the week are our U15A Footballers who had a great win in Q.Final of C'Ship in extra time v Ballyboden (1-17,1-8), 15B's lost to Kilmacud. Adult Hurlers had a good league with over Scoil Ui Chonaill (3-11,1-5). Junior B's had an impressive away win in the league over Clann Mhuire.  Minor B's put up great performance v Raheny in C'Ship but just came up short in the end. Best were Conor Bates, Ciaran Mc Sharry and Cian Buckley.U16 Footballers lost to Maurs (1-10,4-17), best wishes to Stephen O'Doherty for a speedy recovery from injury.  U14As beaten by a physically stronger Ballinteer side. Junior C's defeated Naomh Barrog (4-5,3-4) in AFL12, thanks to a remarkable Vinny Clohessy hat-trick and great efforts from Feo Dodd, Alan Vale and Craig McConnell. Minor Hurlers had a convincing win over Scoil Ui Chonaill in the Championship (3-11,0-4). U16 Hurlers lost in the shield semi-final to St. Judes (1-8,0-6). Well done to the U10 Hurlers for the display of the season at the Tommy Best U10 Blitz at Naomh Eoin Belfast. Ladies Inters play at home on Wed. Team of the week are our Under 15B Footballers who defeated Clann Mhuire by a goal in a keenly contested quarter final of the Championship Shield, having trailed by 7pts at the break. Minor A Footballers drew with Parnells and qualified for the quarter final of the Championship. Minor B team went down to Plunketts in their game. Full round of football league games next weekend. Seniors travel to play St. Annes on Sat. Junior A's will be crowned AFL6 winners if they beat O'Tooles on Sun, pitch 35 11am. Team of the week award was shared by the Under 10 Hurlers and Junior A Footballers. The unbeaten Junior A's clinched AFL 6 on Sunday, well done to the entire squad and Management team of Robblie Lillis, Alan and Brian Lynch on a great achievement. U10 Hurlers won all but 1 game in the Kilmacud Blitz, including wins over the hosts, Lucan and a draw with Na Piarsaigh of Cork. Seniors performed very well to draw away to St. Annes (0-10,1-7). Junior C's lost to Rosmini (1-14,2-8), with Mark Flanagan outstanding throughout. Minor Hurlers lost narrlowly to Whitehall.Ladies Inters won there last game of the season to secure Div 2 status, best were Siobhain Kennedy and well done to all on a passionate performance.U12 girls defeated Scoil Ui Chonaill to reach Shield final, while U11's had a big win over Craobh Ciaran. Congratulations to our Ladies section on winning the Overall Club of the Year Award at the O'Neills Dublin Ladies awards night on Fri. Team of the week are our Under 11 girls who defeated Na Dubhgall (2-5, 2-1) to reach the Championship Final. Adult Hurlers had a good 8pt league win over St Brigids( 2-05, 3-11). Outstanding displays from John Devine and Ro Kenny and excellent adult debuts for minors Ciaran McSharry and Ciaran Johnson.Minor B Team beat St Vincents in the Championship with Alan Cooke scoring 2-1 and Matthew Farrelly superb. U16 Footballers finished the season with a great (3-8,1-14) draw away to Good Counsel. U11A football team lost by a point to Na Fianna in the top of the table clash. U10's had a fantastic win over St.Vincents. U16 Girls playing Cuala in Shield final on Sunday 16th at Maurs. U13 girls reached their Shield final with great wins over Scoil Ui Chonaill and Na Fianna. Minor Footballers play St. Pats Palmerstown in the Championship quater-final on Sunday, pitch 34, 11am, all support welcome. U12 Hurlers lost both matches against Na Fianna and Peregrines, yet all the lads battled bravely to the end. U11 Hurlers put in a great performance V Castleknock, with A team getting a hard earned draw and B team registering a fine win. A great weekend for our Ladies Juvenile section with several teams in finals. U13's drew with Sylvesters in a fiercely contested Shield Final (3-6,3-6). U12's won their Shield Final with a great team display, while U11 Girls won the Div 2 Championship Final with a superb 6pt win over Castleknock. Senior Footballers lost to Skerries (1-9,0-10) in their last league fixture and now face a one game relegation playoff to maintain Div 2 status. Minor Footballers beats St. Pats (P) in the Championship quarter final and now play Round Towers in the semi-final next Sunday.Under 11 Footballers concluded their season with the A team defeating Plunketts and B team having a big win over O'Dwyers. Other B team lost narrowly to Plunketts B. Under 9 red team beat St Peregrins on Saturday by 12 points in St. Pauls. Another fantastic result and this continues the red teams unbeaten record since the summer break.Under 8 footballers competed well against Naomh Barrogs.Ladies Inters had a great night in the club on Fri for their end of season get together. Congratulations to Sue Lillis who was awarded the VHI Leinster Clubperson of the Year award by Cuman Peil Gael na mBan. Sue has played a major role both on and off the pitch and has been instrumental in growing the game in Clontarf ensuring it has the third largest player base in Dublin. Minor Footballers Championship semi final V Round Towers (C) was postponed and will be played this Sunday in Clondalkin. Thanks to all who supported our Annual Adult Football Blitz & BBQ on Dec 27th. A fun evening was had, with over 50 participants from the Senior, Junior, Ladies and Social sections. Over 700euro was raised for St. Francis Hospice Raheny. Well done to Neil Shanahan and Co on a well attended Wooden Bridge jump on Xmas day. Over 30 participated and all proceeds went to Our Lady's Childerns hospital Crumlin.
