Clontarf GAA Club Notes 2nd January 2007

The Club Executive wishes all members a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Many thanks to all players, mentors and club activists for their great commitment over the past year. The club is supporting a number of charity events over the Christmas, details are on our website - Wooden Bridge Jump on Dec 25th (2pm) and Adult Blitz/bbq on Dec 28th (4pm). Well done to Mick Keane, Peadar Hickey and everyone else involved who raised money for the Make a Wish Foundation last Sat with an excellent Trad/Folk session in the club. Junior A's relegation playoff posponed untill the New Year. U13's finished a succesful year with a trip to Wexford and a party on Sat. Adult Hurlers resume training every Mon and Wed, contact Joe Holden for details (087-2562400), new recruits always welcome. Junior A's had a comfortable win over Kilmacud in a challenge, with goals from McGinn, Shaw and Mulligan. Junior A Footballers face St. Margarets in a league relegation playoff on Sunday 11am at Craobh Ciaran grounds, all support welcome. Ladies U16's and U14's played a blitz, with Grainne Free's team the winners. Chairmans's night for all club activists with guest speaker Sean Boylan will take place on Sat 27th in the clubhouse. Well done to Marguerite Walsh and Noel Joy who received mentor awards for their outstanding achievements with Belgrove schools in 2006. Many thanks to all those (esp. Team of the week are the U15's who had a fine with V St. Maurs (1.15, 2-1), with 4 great points from Willie Lillis and other fine displays from Barry Mullins, Teddy Cronin, Harry Connell and Ross Fitzpatrick. Deepest condolences to Marguerite Walshe and family on the passing of her Mother Bernadette at the weekend. Many thanks to Paul Caffrey for attending the Adult Players awards night on Sat. and thanks also to Sue Lillis, Maurice Whelan and all others who helped organise a great event. Player of the year awards were - Aidan Morrissey (Senior), Carrie O'Connor (Ladies), Kieran Murray (Junior A), Declan Mulligan (Junior B), Richie Dennehy (Hurling) and Damien Mullins (Minor). Adult Football competition started with losses for the Junior A's (0-6,0-7) and the B's  (0-6,1-10), both away to Plunketts, while Senior game was off. For the A's, Alan Lynch, John Traenor, Neil Arthur and Garvan Blake performed well, while Paul Murphy and Ultan Kennedy were best for the B's. U16B's lost to Inisfails, while U15's lost to Whitehall. U10's began the season with away win against Naomh Mearnog. U14's lost to Ballymun, with Niall Dunleavy outstanding. U14 team and mentors wish Ryan Lattin a speedy recovery from his knee injury. 1st golf society outing of the year will be on Mar 30th in Clontarf GC, details on website. Team of the week are the U13B's, with a great win over Thomas Davis and exceptional performances from Jake Caldwell and Ronan McDyer. A depleted senior squad started their season with a AIB Cup match loss to Naomh Barrog (0-9,0-11). Junior A's had a fine cup win over St. Sylvesters (0-8,0-5), with excellent performaces from Neil Arthur, Conor Keane and Shane Kennedy (0-3). U14A's lost narrowly to Ballyboden in a terrific game, with great displays from Jack McCaffrey, Andrew Cooke, William Lillis and Nial Dunleavy.U14 team and mentors wish Ryan Lattin a speedy recovery from his recent knee injury. Well done to our U11's on a narrow victory over Skerries. Club extends deepest sympathy to Geraldine and Michael O' Donoghue (one of our main club sponsors) on the recent death of Mairead Cantwell  in Cahir, sister to Geraldine and aunt of Thomas. Annual dinner dance on Sat in Clontarf Castle was a great success, many thanks to Patricia Reynolds and Sue Lillis for organising - see website for pictures. Congratulations to Paul Casey who received Clubman of the year and also to Bill Ronayne on being the 1st recipient of the club's new annual  'Special Recognition Award'. Bill has contributed greatly to the club for the past 40's years. Senior Football and Junior Hurling cup ties were posponed. Junior B's lost away to Clann Mhuire (0-9,1-3), with Conor Kelly, Graham Johnson and Steve Moore all outstanding. Minors lost to St. Brigids (3-10,1-7), with 2 late goals sealing the win for Brigids. 1st round of league fixtures for Adult footballers next weekend, please support. 1st golf society outing of the year will be on Mar 30th in Clontarf GC. Clontarf GAA Club Notes 13th March 2007

Team of the week are the U15 Footballers who beat Castleknock (5-5,3-8) in a thriller. C O'Breachain (2-0), W.Lillis (2-1) and J.McCaffrey (1-1) were superb up front, while R.Fitzpatrick excelled in defence. Minor hurlers were beaten by Fingal Gaels (5-12,2-4). With just 2 second year minors and 4 U16's the young team fought hard and gave their all but struggled against the combined Maurs and Finians teams. This was the 1st match at minor level for the club in a number of years and all participants did the club proud. Adult football leagues commenced with a win for Junior A's and losses for Seniors and Junior B's. U10 hurlers started their season with a great win over Erins Isle. Opening day of the season for U13 camogie posponed until Mar 24th. 1st golf society outing of the year will be on Mar 30th in Clontarf GC

Deepest condolences to the Palmer family on the passing of Eileen, mother of former Club Chairman Don Palmer. Many thanks to all those who attended and helped organise the 'Briathair Beo Chluain Tarbh' event in the clubhouse last Fri, it was a huge success. Special thanks to Feargal O'Breachain, Aine Ni Neachtain and Coiste Na Gaeilge. U11 footballers had a fine win over Kilmacud Crokes in a friendly. Golf society outing On March 30th to Clontarf GC. Seniors had a fine league win over Kilmacud (0-13,1-7), with excellent performances from Conor Glavey and Damien Fennelly. Junior A's lost to Templeogue SS. Junior B's lost to Raheny (0-5, 2-6), despite great contributions in defence from Gareth Johnson and Colm Hickey. Minor hurlers received a walkover V St. Monicas. U15 Hurlers lost to St. Brigids.U14 Hurlers had a great win over Fingallians (2-5,1-5). U12C Footballers battled hard in losing to St. Josephs OCB (Pictures on website). Junior Hurlers had 3 pts losses in both Cup and League,away to Ballyboden and Faughs, despite fine displays from Matt O'Neill,Gerry Murphy and Niall Synnott. A depleted Seniors lost in Cup action away to St. Maurs (5-13,2-3). Junior A's had an excellent 1 pt win over Starlights (0-15,2-8), while Junior B's lost to O'Tooles. Minor footballers had a good win over Na Fianna, with Alan Cooke and Gareth Johnson leading the way from midfield and Kevin Mc Grath grabbing 8 pts from play. Best of luck to our 2nd Ladies team who start their season at home on Wed (6.45pm) V Na DubhGall, please support.U15's lost to Lucan,while U14's had a great midweek win in the league V Na Fianna. U14's also had an enjoyable trip to the burren in co clare over the weekend. U10 hurlers had a win and a loss against Naomh Barrog, with James Adamson netting a hat trick of goals. Congrats to Eoin Cronin on his selection to the Dublin minor 2008 development squad. The Executive are pleased to announce the club has secured further lotto funding (250K) for our St. Annes pitches development. Easter Camp was a big success, thanks to the efforts of GPO Neil O'Driscoll - over 180 boys and girls attended this year. Seniors and Junior A's were defeated in midweek league action, while all Adult teams play Cup mid week. U14's enjoyed a great trip to Clare to the outdoor adventure centre. Well done to the Ladies Junior Footballers, who played their 1st ever game and defeated Na Dubhgall in the Cup. There were big contributions from P.Reynolds(2-1), C.Duane(2-1) and E.Shaloo (4pts). Seniors play Championship V Ballinteer next Sun,3pm in O'Toole Pk, all support welcome.Well done to Ross Mc Cullagh who was the star of the Dublin North U12 team in the recent North V South Easter Tournament, scoring a fantastic 2-5 (2-4 from play).  Adult Hurlers began their championhsip campaign with a draw V Clann Gael (0-11,1-8), with Eoin Cronin, Ger Devine, Ro Kenny in top form. Junior A's lost in the Cup to Man O'War by 1pt. Minor Footballers had a big championship win over St. Monicas (6-13,0-8) with a terrific all round team performance.U16 Hurlers lost to Ballinteer by 1pt, best Feo Dodd, Andy Lombard and Ronan Deery. U15 Hurlers beat Plunketts (1-13,2-1), with best for Clontarf Daragh Golden,Conor Cronin,Harry Connolly. Team of the week are our U14 hurlers who had a great midweek win over Faughs (5-16,5-03). Hard luck to Senior Footballers who lost in the Championship to Ballinteer (3-10,2-8), despite a strong 1st half showing.Junior B's had a great 1pt league win over St. Brendans. U16 hurlers beat O'Tooles (3-6,2-7), best Feo Dood, Teddy Cronin and Andrew Donnelly. U11 hurlers defeated Na Fianna, while U9 hurlers had a great win away V Ballyboden. In football U13A's defeated Erins Isle with a super team effort. Condolences to Mick Ruddy on the passing of his brother Brendan and also to the Stokes family on the passing of their Grandfather George Kenny. Team of the week are the U14 Footballers, who reached the Feile Div 2 final, losing narrowly to an excellent Skerries side. Well done to all involved over the weeked and to Ballyboden and Thomas Davis for their hospitalilty for our A and B teams. Seniors play Championship on Sat, 5pm V Trinity Gaels in Portmarknock, all support welcome. Junior Hurlers had an excellent Championship win over Naomh Olafs (0-10,1-8). Minors had a great championship win over Parnells (2-11,3-7), having trailed by 6pts at half time. U16 hurlers beat Kilmacud by 1 goal in a thrilling game. best were Cillian Carroll, Craig McConnell. Seniors lost in a close championship encounter V Trinity Gaels (1-11,0-12), despite excellent performances from Darren Lambart and Shane Barrett. Junior A's lost narrowly in extra time in their Stacey Cup playoff to Man O'War. Clontarf Junior Ladies won their 2nd league game with a great victory over Ballyboughal (5-10,2-6). U16 hurlers had a fine win over Fingallians, with a fantastic hat-trick from Andrew Donnelly. U16B's lost to Croi Ro Naofa, while U15 hurlers lost to Raheny. Another great week for our U14's, with wins in football (Div 1) over Raheny and in hurling over Cuala. Deepest condolences to Raheny GAA and to the family of Jarlath Finnigan who passed away suddenly at the weekend. A busy Championship week ahead for Adult Football. Junior A's play Thomas Davis away on Sun at 11am. B's play Round Towers (L) at home on Sun at 3pm. Both Ladies teams begin their Championship campaigns on Wed. All support welcome at all these matches. Junior Hurlers drew in Championship V Na Fianna (0-11,0-11), with terrific displays from Ger Devine and Fiach O'Rinn. We had a great response to our Provincial Forecast Competition, details will be posted on our website this week. U15 hurlers had a good win over Whitehall. Under 12 A and B Football teams continue on winning ways as both teams push for semi-final slots. Team of the week are the Junior B Footballers after excellent league and C'ship wins. A few late scores from subs Gaskin and  Nutley sealed the C'ship win over Round Towers Lusk (0-14,2-4). Best were Colm Hickey and Aidan O'Halloran Jnr. Junior A's 2nd half comeback wasn't enough in their Championship match V Thomas Davis (2-12,2-5), best were Cormac Nolan and Ger Ryan. U16B's drew with Kilbride (3-13,6-7), best B.Mullins, D.Golden, A.O'Donohoe. U16 A's lost by 4pts, best Ronan O'Grady,Cian Buckley. Ladies Inters had a fine C'ship win over St. Brigids (5-4,1-10), while Juniors lost narrowly to Lucan. U9's narrowly beaten by Na Fianna in a fine midweek game. U13 mentor Kieran Tummon leads our GAA Provincial Forecast Competition with all eight matches predicted correctly so far (see website). Ladies Intermediate team play in a vital Championship clash on Wed, 7:30pm, St. Annes, all support welcome. Tickets for Dublin game can be collected on Thur from 9pm in the clubhouse. Family BBQ takes place at 6pm on Sun June 3rd after the Dublin game (details on website). Minors drew with St. Annes (5-14,7-8) in the Summer League, with Ian O'Dwyer scoring a fantastic 4-3. Best of luck to all of our juvenile teams involved in the final stages of cup competitions next week, details of all fixtures now on website.Great wins in hurling for our U10's over Skerries and our U9's over Erins Isle. Mini Leagues finals on Sat  was a wonderful 'festival' occasion of sport , superbly organised in an ideal setting with  250  kids participating  in keenly  contested  finals and was a fitting climax to another successful and long  Nursery season. The day   was also  marked by  the 1st staging of  the newly  inaugurated Gerry O'Connor Hurling  Memorial Trophy. Thanks to Dara , Ger & John for attending.  Congrats also  to young  Conor  Mullins  who made his 'Croke Park debut'  in the Dublin Primary Schools exhibition game on Sunday.  U 12 Hurlers  had a great trip to Thurles, with a game in the morning , attended the big game in the afternoon, walked on to the 'hollowed turf' afterwards and  later  met up with the great Sean Og in the Anner. Thanks to Jim Maher for organising a memorable day . On the playing front both Snrs and Jnrs had good wins to  maintain their good run of form. Willie O 'Connor's promising and improving Jnr B's play their 2nd round chip  game at home this  Friday. Golf Classic also on Friday in St Anne's.  The week also say the sad passing of Tony Darcy, a highly popular and respected club member.  A native of  Terryglass Tony had a  great passion and love of  our games.  Thanks to all our members  for their support, to the Darcy family at this sad time, and to  give Tony  a fitting final  farewell.

Thanks  to all who supported and participated in our very successful Corp Golf Fundraiser on Friday last,  with particular thanks to our Sponsors , St Anne's Golf Club and to  Paul & Kate  and Organising Committee for a job well done.  Thanks also to all who supported our 2  well attended  BBQ's at the weekend, and to Tom & his hard working bar staff.   the  On  the playing front Jnr B's drew with E. Isle in the Chip in a dramatic finish - replay  away this evening 7.30pm. Hurlers despite  a promising start were edged out by St Marks by 4 pts.   Senrs have 2 vital league games this week  while both Jnrs are also in action.  Juvenile results to hand show good wins recorded  at  U 10's v Fingallians  and at  U 15's  over  Whitehall, while  U 13 girls had a fine home win over Castleknock. Understrength 13 & U 14 hurlers lost to Barrog & O'Tooles. Finally belated congrats to all in Castleknock on their fantastic achievement in winning the All- Ireland U 14 Hurling  Feile.

Seniors had another good league win, this time over Parnells (1-10, 0-11), with great contributions all round, esp. Damien Mullins, John O'Halloran and Steve McGinn (1-1). Adult Hurlers have an important Championship out on Thur V Plunketts. U12 A and B squads finished for the summer with fine wins over Nh. Mearnog and St. Finians (S). Ladies Juniors had a good cup win over Nh. Fionnbarra with Julie Warnock scoring 2-2. There were other outstanding contributions from Fiona McCabe, Trish Reynolds, Emer Shalloo and Maeve O'Malley. U15 Footballers beat St. Brigids midweek (2-12,1-7). Best were Patrick Nolan, Ross O'Hanlon and Daragh Golden. U12 Girls had a great midweek win over St. Brigids. All tcts order for Leinster Final must be with Willie Lillis (087-0522225) by 8pm this evening. PJ Lynch and Diarmaid McStay lead the GAA Forecast Competition, with just 3 matches left.

Junior Hurlers had an impressive Championship win over St. Oliver Plunketts (2-4,2-16). Ladies Juniors defeated St. James Gael in the cup thanks to great defensive displays from Miriam and Alison Foley. Ladies Inters play 2 cup games this week. It's a busy week for Adult Footballers, with all 3 teams in action midweek and weekend. U15 footballers played in the Ger Canavan Tournament, beating Nh. Fionnbarra and drawing with Parnells in the group stages, before losing the semi final to hosts O'Tooles by 2pts. Well done to our U9 footballers, runners up in the Ger Canavan Tournament, while U9 hurlers enjoyed an outing to Buffers Alley Wexford - Report and Photos on website. Condolences to family and friends on the passing of Ex. Thanks to all who supported our Provincial Forecast Competition this year, the top prize winners were Diarmaid McStay, Jim Murray and Ollie Mangan. Junior Hurlers had another fine win in the Championship Round Robin series. They defeated St. Judes (2-13,0-6) and are now well placed for a quarter or semi final slot. Senior footballers play O'Tooles in a refixed league match tomorrow night. Junior B Footballers play Ballinteer SJ in the quarter final of the Junior C Championship on Thur at 8pm in Ballinteer, all support welcome. Junior Hurlers secured a Championship playoff slot with a fine win over Ballyboden SE (0-4,2-13), training continues this week on Tue/Thur. Adult football matches resumed next weekend. Ladies Junior footballers lost in midweek league action to Lucan, despite a wonderful hat trick from Ciara Carville. U16 hurlers beat O'Tooles with a last minute goal, while U15 hurlers lost to Scoil Ui Chonaill (6-5,2-4). Thanks to all those who attended and helped organise the Texas Holdem Poker Fundraiser on Sat. Tcks for the All Irl semi final will be given out on Fri 9-10pm. Team of the week are the U12 hurlers who won the Division 2 Camaint Final at Parnell Pk on Sat. The nursery started again in St. Pauls with an excellent turnout, including 60 newcomers at the youngest age. All club members are encouraged to support the Dublin Under 21 hurlers in the All Ireland Final next Sunday. Minors beat Fingallians in the Football Championship (3-11,2-6), they have topped their group and are now through to the quarter final.Under 16 hurlers narrowly lost to Kilmacud in the Championship. U15 footballers lost to Castleknock (3-8,3-12), with best P.Breen, C.Cronin and S.Reynolds. Well done to Peadar Hickey, Richie Dennehy and Robert Stokes who represented North Dublin Junior hurlers in the Senior Hurling Championship V St. Brigids. Minors had an impressive Championship win over St. Maurs and now advance to the semi-final. U16 hurlers beat Ballinteer (3-12,3-8) in the league, best were Kevin Fitzgerald,Ronan O'Grady.U13 hurlers had a great win over Plunketts in the shield semi-final. U10 hurlers had another great win. Ladies Intermediates had a good win V St. Marks, best were Martina Coen and Erica Grant. It was great week of important wins for the club. Team of the week are the U13 Hurlers who defeated Naomh Barrog (2-8,2-4) to win the Championship Shield Final. Captain Ronan McDyer, Robert Reynolds, Matthew Jones,Matias McDonagh and Morgan Walsh all excelled. Minor Footballers reached the Championship Final with a great team performance, defeating Craobh Ciaran (1-7,1-4). There were great wins for the Girls U12's and U11's in Shield competitions. U11's defeated Skerries in the semi final with a great performance, esp. Fiona Terry (1-6), Amy O'Meara and Kelly O'Doherty. U14 hurlers defeated Buffers Alley (Wex) (6-12,7-7). U9 hurlers bet Erins Isles with Patrick Smith the star again. Seniors play O'Tooles in Championship Relegation next Sunday, 11am in Druimnigh, please support. Best of luck to our Minor Footballers who play in the County C Championship Final V Clann Mhuire next Sunday at 10:30am in Parnell Pk, a big turnout of support is requested. Minor hurlers defeated Scoil Ui Chonaill in the Championship with a great performance. U14 Footballers had a fine Div 1 league win over St. Sylvesters. Ross O'Hanlon starred with a string of superb saves. Also in top form were Mark Hughes, Mark Plunkett, Joe O'Grady, Fergal O'Sullivan. U10 boys enjoyed a trip to Douglas in Co. Cork, where they all performed brilliantly in several closely contested games and special mention for the performance of Barry Davis. A thrilling weekend of wins for the club. On Fri our U16 hurlers beat O'Tooles (5-3,3-6) in the D Shield Final, with Capt. Andrew Lombard netting 2 vital goals. On Sun our Minor Footballers captured the C Championship at Parnell Pk, defeating Clann Mhuire (1-9,1-5), thanks to a late goal from Chris Spelman. Well done to all involved and special mention for the performances of Capt. Ger Carey, Fiachra Dodd, John Maguire, John Conroy and Gareth Johnson.The Junior Hurlers reached the Championship semi-final, defeating Naomh Olaf (1-14,2-10), best D.Carew, R.Stokes, K.Scully.U15 hurlers won the Shield semi final defeating N. Olaf (4-10,4-3),D. Golden, C.McConnell, S. Reynolds, P.Mohan were all excellent. U12 girls beat Scoil Ui Chonaill in the Shield Final with a great team performance.
