Clontarf GAA Club notes 21/2/2006

Opening day of the Adult football season was a successful one for the new senior Management. Jayo O'Keefe and Dermot McStay took charge as Ronan Dodd looked after his newest addition Anthony. Fielding a strong side, short only 3 regulars, the team had to battle hard to take the points after Annes drew level with 10 mins left. Shane McIntyre ripped up his regrading slip as he produced a sparkling performace (1-7), including to vital late frees that saw Clontarf safe home on a scoreline (2-10, 1-11). Next up in Round 2, it's Naomh Olaf

The Junior B's didn't get the result they desired again a young fit Whitehall outfit. short several regulars and with others sufferring from the Dinner Dance effects, Clontarf were always chasing this game. Down 5-1 at half time, the 2nd half revival with the wind wasn't good enough as Whitehall ran out eventual winners (0-11,1-5). Olan Carmody notched 1-3, while at the back Conor Glavey produced a solid display.

The Junior A game was posponed and the hurlers had a week off.

A late goal gave Raheny victory in a tight Minor Cup competition (2-7,2-9), that had the sides level at the interval. Best for Clontarf were Philip Ryan, Ciaran Doyle, Cian Ruane. U16 footballers paid the price for a bad start against Thomas Davis. Down 1-5 after 10 mins, they finally got motoring, but in the end couldn't make up the 4pt difference (2-11,3-4). Best were E Cronin, S Daly and A O' Halloran Team of the Week are U15 footballers who beat O'Tooles (2-6,2-5), with Matthew Farrelly in superb form at the back. U14A's lost to Naomh Barrog, U14B's lost to Lucan. U13 A's continue to be the shining team of 2006 with another high profile scalp, this time over Round Towers Clondalkin. Clontarf GAA Club notes 28th Feb 2006

Team of the week are the U14A Footballerswho beat St. Pats (P) (3-10,1-9) in a thriller. Goals from Conor Cronin and Patrick Breen, plus 3 late points from Ross Holden sealed victory.

Seniors lost to Naomh Olaf (3-11,3-4) in the AIB cup. Short a number of regulars, there were call ups for Steve McGinn and Karl Spellman. Clontarf had the better of the 1st half exchanges with fine goals from Shane McIntyre and Steve McGinn left them 1 pt up. Little went right for Clontarf in the 2nd half and the dismissals of Damien Fennelly and Brian Stokes let Olafs dominate. A late Karl Spellman goal put some respectability on the scorlboard.

In Stacey Cup action the Junior A's renewed acquaintances with St. Brigids., a side they defeated twice in 2005. But it was Brigids that won promotion last year and they showed their undoubted ability in the final 10mins as 2 quick counter attacks yielded (1-1) to secure victory on a scoreline of  (0-6,1-8). Despite the loss, Clontarf performed very well and dominated large spells of this game, especially in the 2nd half. The downside was the teams inability to convert many good scoring opportunities. There were fine performaces from Brian Cotter, Ro Kenny and Neil Mullins.

In Junior B Sheriden Cup action, Clontarf had the daunting task of taking on a team ranked 4 league divisions higher. Clontarf started the game brightly and took an early lead with points from Olan Carmody and Eoghan O'Grady. Parnells full forward scored a fine goal mid way through the half and it looked like the game was turning. Clontarf kept pluging away and a superb point from David Shaw just before the interval gave the B's a deserved (0-5,1-1) lead. Despite playing into a strong breeze in the 2nd half, Clontarf played a fine possession game and picked off some good scores. With less than 10 mins remaining only 1 point seperated the sides. But 3 late goals and some well taken points gave Parnells a big winning margin.

U13A's finished the spring league with another great win over Kilmacud Crokes (2-8,2-4). Best were William Lillis, Mattias MacDonagh and Jack McCaffrey. The U13 won 4 of their 5 games and have qualified to be in league division 1 proper, a fine achievement.
U12A's beat O'Dwyers (3-6,2-3), best Ronan McDyer and Peter Judge. U12 B games was posponed U15's lost to Ballymun, despite a great performance from Austin Herbert. U12 Camogie play their first game on Sat morning away to Cuala, best of luck to Katie Buckley and the girls.Extended Clubnotes, new Galleries and Complete Fixtures/Results are available on our Website - www.clontarfgaa.com
